OFCOM have announce that Racket Digital have to day been awarded the new D2 project.
Approximately two months ago, OFCOM advertised their new D2 project. Two parties registered their interest in running the new D2 multiplexes across the UK; Racket Digital and Hubbub4Digital.
OFCOM cited that Racket Digital was awarded D2 because of it’s previous experience of dealing with “many elements in a complex relationship”.
Both parties were also part of bids for the R2 project, which sees eventual project winner Darth Vader building a new hub for the universes’ radio stations. At the time he said, “Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed.”
D2 will enable Earth’s inhabitants to hear the UK’s radio stations from their new home, which will cost approximately $852,000,000,000,000,000.
The new R2-D2 multiplexes will be seen across the UK in the build up to the new Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens
film, due to be released later this year.
The launch of the R2-D2 multiplex system is also expected to tie in with Madame Tussauds London’s new Star Wars wax figurines, also due to be revealed later this year.
There was also some confusion in the intergalactic press this week over the name of the new project. OFCOM clarified the name in statement to RadiAubergine:
Whilst the project was advertisied as “D2”, the full project name is “R2-D2” as it will be bringing radio from the R2 project to Earth via the D2 project. It is known internally as both the D2 and R2-D2 project.
When asked whether the multiplexes on Earth will actually look like the Astromech droids seen in the Star Wars film franchise, OFCOM commented:
What the multiplexes look like is entirely up to Racket Digital. Full planning consent will still need to sought via the relevant channels.
There have been some accusations from the Daily Mail that GCHQ will use the new R2-D2 multiplexes to track down ‘Storm Troopers’ as they’re “not actually looking for storms at all!”.
Neither Racket Digital or GCHQ were available for comment at the time of writing.
