It was announced today by Which? that the most popular alarm clock radio in the UK is the Toshiba RC-K1 FM/AM 2Band Alarm Clock Radio for the third year running.
According to a survey conducted by Which?, the Japanese company’s bedside alarm clock, first sold in 1985, saw a large spike in sales in 2014 due to the Tour De France starting in Yorkshire.
Despite 12 BBC stations (including Radio Leeds) and 30 commercial stations on DAB in the North East county, many listeners in Yorkshire decided to buck the digital trend and listen in stereo FM.
James, a farmer in Emmerdale, said: “My cows prefer the full rounded sound of FM compared to DAB, and certainly don’t appreciate Van Halen all distorted on AM.”
The Toshiba RC-K1 offered a unique interface for setting the time and alarm clock, with a separate selector for the hour and minute of the day.
A spokesperson for Which? said: “It’s amazing to see this 30 year old piece of Japanese engineer still popular in the UK today.”
