Local commercial radio station owners UKRD today announced all stations will be rebranded with animal names.

Newquay Zoo zookeeper Lucy was amazed at how well the animals behaved. “Usually when they see blokes in suits, they can’t wait to get their mukky paws on them. But fortunately today Rosie and Jim were occupied by their new bubble machine.”

Kyle Long, UKRD Head of Branding, said on the rebrand, “Having looked at how strong brands like Eagle Radio and The Bee are, we decided now was the time to take the same approach with all our other stations.”

Alongside the new station names and branding, each show will now take on the ‘zoo’ format, most popular in the United States, and last used in the UK by Chris Moyles. This will see a 600% increase in staff numbers across the UKRD group.

Current Group Programme Director, Dill Angel, who used to work at Oxfordshire’s FOX FM, was excited by today’s announcement. “I can’t wait to meet all these new people and get them on air! There will have never been so many voices on the UKRD stations at once.”

From today, the stations will be known as:

  • Eagle Radio; Eagle FM
  • KL.FM 96.7; Kitten FM
  • Pirate FM 102; Parrot FM
  • Star Radio Cambridge & Ely; Elephant FM
  • Star Radio North East; Spider FM
