BBC Radio have announced they won’t be playing this year’s The Voice UK winner’s single “for the foreseeable future”.
The winner of The Voice UK Series 4, Stevie McCrorie (29), has tonight released their debut single Lost Stars, a cover of Adam Levine’s Oscar-nominated song.
However, no BBC radio stations will be playing the single “for the foreseeable future” according to a source at BBC Music.
It’s not known exactly why, but historically the BBC haven’t played any of the previous three The Voice UK winner’s debut singles for a considerable amount of time after release.
A source at BBC Nature said, “Why on earth would we play music by a total unknown? They’ve only been on our TV for a few weeks and for a couple of hours.”
They continued, “The Voice UK was only put on the BBC to compete with The X Factor.”
Criticism is expected to be aimed at the BBC, as Global Radio’s Capital FM has played previous The Voice UK winner singles the day after release.
The Voice UK Series 4 has had an average of 8.7 million viewers per episode.
